Los Angeles based percussionist and drummer Nick Stone has made his career performing across the world, including such countries as France, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and China. He has performed in venues from Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
Nick is a passionate musical theatre percussionist playing at such venues as the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, The Rubicon Theatre, and the Garry Marshall Theatre. Additionally he was the percussionist for Sunday in The Park with George and A Little Night Music at the Pasadena Playhouse for their Tony award winning 2023 Season. He played Xylophone throughout the run of the Pixarmonic Orchestra at Disney California Adventure.
A native of LA, he has performed with many different ensembles around Southern California including the Long Beach Symphony, the Echo Society, the New West Symphony, and the Long Beach Municipal Band, where he serves as the mallet percussion specialist.
He has recorded for such composers as Joe Trapanese, Rob Simonsen, Kris Bowers, Jeremy Zuckerman, and Nathan Johnson. You can hear his work in the live action Lady and the Tramp (2019) as well as several episodes of the Disney+ TV show Encore!
From 2011 to 2013 he was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa, serving as Co-Principal Timpani and Principal Percussion. With this group he toured across South Africa and to Europe.
Conductors he has worked under include Leonard Slatkin, David Robertson, Michael Stern, JoAnn Falleta, Robert Spano, and Rossen Milanov. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University where his teachers included Gerald Carlyss, Kevin Bobo, and Steve Houghton and received his Master's Degree from Rutgers University, studying with Joe Tompkins and Markus Rhoten. He additionally studied Afro-Cuban percussion with Michael Spiro and Javier Diaz.
